Recession-proof your business

November 28th, 2009

The depressing economic times have put a lot of businesses into survival mode. Everyone is trying hard to survive let alone make money. So here are some tips to recession-proof your business and stay afloat for a stable future.

First of all, try to build a stabilizing account in case your business is hard hit by the depression. Explain this to staff and make sure some part of the profits you make monthly goes into this fund. Explain that in steady economic conditions this money will go on bonuses and business development but as for now it should be readily available as a back-up plan if something goes terribly wrong.

Don’t forget to invest into corporate gifts and advertising and stress that your products and services are recession-friendly. Threat each customer as royalty and try to give him the most attentive and personal customer service imaginable. As Christmas approaches try to come up with cost-effective gifts for your best clients, like, for instance, personalized calendars. This may be a box of home-made cookies or truffles, but the personal connection it establishes is worth thousands.

It goes without saying you should reduce costs of your business as much as possible and give your best employees custom awards. There are many ways to do it so decide on what will work with you. Never lose faith and be creative. It will get better soon.
